Review: Sheraton Lagos Hotel in Nigeria

The Sheraton Lagos hotel is located about six miles from Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Depending on the time of day – these six miles can take upwards of one hour to arrive. Upon arrival at the hotel, each car is checked by two security guards. They scan underneath the car, check under the hood and in the trunk.

Check in to the hotel went smooth. Even though I’m a lowly Marriott Silver member, the front desk staff congratulated me several times on achieving Silver status and a member of the concierge staff came out to greet me. She said that if I encountered any issues during my stay, to contact her immediately. She then asked if I would like some wine or a fruit plate – I opted for the fruit plate.

There was security at the base of the elevator and when I reached my floor – there was another permanent security guard on the floor.

Breakfast

The breakfast buffet runs from 5:30am to 10:30 – 11:00 am. Due to massive jetlag, the 5:30am start time was very welcome. There was a variety of dishes to choose from – both local Nigerian choices along with an omelet station, several varities of bread with jam, fresh fruit, and typical American choices like pancakes and french toast.

On the property there are three restaurants – an Italian restaurant, a buffet style restaurant, and an a la carte grill outside. There is also a large pool, workout facility, hair salon, and tennis court.

Most every airline crew stays at this hotel. I saw KLM, Air France, and Delta staff during my stay.

Overall I throughly enjoyed this hotel – it was safe, large, with comfortable rooms and great tasting food. I felt like I received good value for my money and would stay at this hotel when I return to Lagos again. It has vastly improved since my last stay in 2012.

Comments

  1. Visited a friend who stayed at this hotel once; took a tour to compare with what obtains here in the USA, and really liked what I saw. This was in the early 2000s.
Went back in 2017 to check on the state of the hotel after so many years, especially, given the African maintenance culture; surprisingly, everything was still in top shape, and better.
I will always recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lagos.
